SUMMARY DESCRIPTIONUnder direction of the Parks and Landscape Division management staff, the employee performs semi-skilled maintenance work involving primarily baseball/softball fields and soccer fields, but also involves some maintenance work at other park facilities, such as skate park, bocce ball, tennis, and basketball courts, etc.
This includes cleaning, repair and preparation of fields and courts.
Workwill occur mostly during weekday afternoons and may include some weekends.
Examples of DutiesThe following duties are typical for this classification.
Incumbents may not perform all of the listed duties and/or may be required to perform additional or different duties from those set forth below to address business needs and changing business practices.
Operate and use equipment associated with the maintenance of sports field, courts and recreation facilities.
Scarify and drag ball fields.
Water infields, fill in holes and rake as appropriate, including turf care.
Check for safety and advise supervisor of any damage at facilities.
Clean courts, install nets, and painting as needed.
Maintain polite, professional conduct and above average attendance and willingness to assume responsibility.
Be informative and educate the public regarding the use of the facilities.
Be polite and tactful in handling situations.
Encourage compliance of rules for field use.
Avoid confrontation; call non-emergency police (925) 625-8060, only when necessary.
Typical QualificationsThe following generally describes the knowledge and ability required to enter the job and/or be learned within a short period of time in order to successfully perform the assigned duties.
Knowledge of:
The safe and effective uses, purposes, and maintenance of hand tools, grounds equipment operation, and maintenance of materials relating field maintenance.
Ability of:
Understand and follow oral and written instructions and demonstrate a high degree of mechanical aptitude.
Maintain anappropriate public service demeanor and positive customer service interactions.
Establish and maintain cooperative and collaborative working relationships.
Adapt to varying work assignments.
Effectively perform tasks using proper safety measures in working with exposure to human debris, drug paraphernalia, heavy equipment, working in and around lawn mowers and grounds equipment, hazardous gases, fumes, paint and chemicals.
Communicating effectively in English both orally and in writing; establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with others; properly use equipment and techniques for performing tree pruning and care; Preparing records and reports.
Education and ExperienceThis is a basic, seasonal position and general education and related experience is likely to provide the required knowledge and abilities.
A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
Education/Training:
Equivalent to graduation from high school.
Experience:
Experience in landscape or facilities maintenance work desired.
Licenses/Certificates:
Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license issued by the State of California Department of Motor Vehicles.
