Land Surveyor

POSITION PURPOSE: This position manages and documents the surveying of all company lands and property boundaries for the California Timberlands to ensure timely and uninterrupted timber harvesting operations. The primary purpose of this position is to ensure that all property lines are accurately identified in the field and property documented in the official county records. It is expected that all work performed meets both State and Federal survey standards and legal requirements. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: (other duties may be assigned) Surveys, monuments, and delineates company property boundaries. Assures that encumbrances affecting company properties are accurately identified and documented. Provides technical knowledge and expertise to legal counsel as required. Maintains ongoing communication and strong internal working relationships with timberlands managers and superintendents, various local agencies to include U.S. Forest Service, BLM, BIA, County of Humboldt and Del Norte, and numerous private landowners throughout Northern California to ensure efficient prioritization of projects and workloads. Administers necessary Surveying contracts in all operating areas in California. Analyzes existing ground conditions and topographic constrains so as to design the most efficient survey plan for each project. Utilizes the annual harvesting plan to coordinate scheduling of necessary boundary surveys affecting each selected harvest area to provide current survey information for timely, uninterrupted harvesting operations. Analyzes and evaluates a variety of data to properly establish and ensure the limits of GDRCo ownership are both professionally and legally defensible. This would include the ability to reconcile any variance between the legal descriptions (deeds) with those disclosed in the field; weighing verbal evidence and testimony concerning lines of occupation, lines of agreement, and old monument locations; determination of previous surveys that may prove to be faulty; location of obliterated original government monuments and many other factors. Assists, when directed, other departments when specific demands require a temporary special assignment (i.e. legal counsel aid, lands acquisition advice, etc.). Utilizes independent judgment and decision making regarding the legal limits of the company's ownership. These decisions must be able to withstand judicial scrutiny. Assures a safe workplace. Takes personal initiative and an aggressive responsibility to ensure ongoing safe behaviors through implementation and active participation in the company safety program. Develops, implements, and facilitates safety elements to support the Divisions Injury and Illness Prevention Plan (IIPP). KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED: B.S. in Land Surveying or equivalent experience (with an emphasis on mathematics and real estate law). Must have five years' experience in Cadastral surveying within a forest operations situation. Must be licensed as a Land Surveyor in California. Must have a valid CA driver's license. Must be able to successfully pass a qualifying course in ATV training. Must have strong working experience and knowledge of photogrammetry. Must possess the skills necessary for all Cartography requirements. Must possess personal computer knowledge and skill relating to surveying software. Must possess ability to be self-motivated and be able to make independent decisions. Exhibit high professional and ethical standards. Ability to work extended hours, including weekend as necessary, when projects demand more time commitment to accomplish important and/or timely goals. Views obstacles as opportunities to learn and grow. Desired: B.S. Degree in Forestry. Registered Professional Forester. Formal education in Real Estate Law. Strong leadership skills. Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously. Knowledge of Forestry operations. Prior experience in retracement on government surveys in timbered lands. Knowledge of GPS equipment. Participation in continuing education programs and training related to the Lands Surveying profession. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT: This position is based out of the Korbel, CA Timberlands office. Work locations extend across the full extent of the California Timberland ownership. Extensive work in the field (50%+) under varying topography and climatic extremes. Ability to orient, climb, and traverse steep rugged, densely vegetated terrain on a consistent basis in in sometimes harsh weather conditions for long periods of time. Must have the ability to see distance and detail with accuracy. Must have ability to work independently and without immediate supervision in remote areas. Works in conditions that may expose employee wildlife encounters, poison oak and/or insect bites. Mandatory travel to remote company locations. Ability to tour logging operations, attend training and company functions. Must maintain punctual and regular attendance and present appropriate professional appearance at all times. Requires the use of standard safety equipment in regulation with GDRCo. This position may be exposed to Marking paint, gas, diesel fumes, pollens, and smoke. This position is a Physical and Mental Requirement Classification 3.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
